Local's Night
Review by Meerkat (2), left on 25-06-2008 at 17:25
We ate out at 7th Wave last Wednesday. We went at 6pm as we have a four-year-old son. No reservation? No problem. It was Local's Night and a lot of the tables had "reserved" signs on them but as we were there so early, we were shown to a table straight away. I love the fact that this is probably the smartest restaurant in the town of Ocean Grove but they still have a children's menu. Both my husband and I chose the porterhouse steak with mushroom sauce and our son had the children's serving of fish 'n chips. The food was outstanding, as usual, and the attention from the staff was spot-on. Highly recommended!

Winner for Most Improved Venue 2007

“This venue is becoming a magnet to diners who enjoy quality. The food borders on excellent with customer service to match. The coffees are worth the visit alone and you won’t pay a kings ransom to dine here. In my opinion this is the most improved venue in competition.”
Little Slice of Melbourne on the Beach?
Review by SURFERMAN (3), left on 27-11-2006 at 17:25
I dine out a lot in Melbourne(3-4 times a week on average), and also have a holiday place in Ocean Grove, but I rarely venture out when down the coast, as most places are below average and very dissapointing. Its my view that Coastal towns breed places that sport million dollar views, but serve packet mixes, small portions and charge exorbitant prices.
NOT Seventh Wave! It is truly top notch. Dishes vary greatly, with an extensive menu selection, and then an even better list of daily specials. The 6 or 7 timesI have dined for dinner, the specials have included things like a Housemade Gnocchi with prosciutto and a white wine sauce, a beef rendang curry, seared atlantic salmon with lime crust or a magnificent prawn linguini! And these are just the specials! Out of interest sakes, I keep an eye on the web site to see the ever changing list of specials, and it amazes me they are able to keep producing such a super array of dishes! Duck, Pork, Chicken, Lamb...BARRAMUNDI! You name it, seventh wave seem to serve it, and serve it amazingly well! At this point I need to make special mention of the Barra. I have eaten Barramundi in Sydney, in Darwin, in Cairns...but they all pale into comparison when you try seventh waves! It is truly superb! As is the HUGE eye fillet steak, and it is served with quite possibly the best pepper sauce on earth! But if you want to have a more exotic eye fillet, the Wave has that too! (yep, they have two different eye fillets!)
Coffee is to rival the best in Melbourne, and always served just the way it should be! A great wine list, with a lot of locals and a good range of reds and white.
Prices start at around $20..but I disagree with the other 2 reviews, the star rating system on this site is based on value for money, not how much it costs, and while it may not be as cheap as a pub meal, you certainly get the best value for money I have seen for a long time. The serves are enormous, and its quite obvious that the ingredients are used for quality reasons, as opposed to what is cheapest, and I think this is what makes seventh wave the BEST restaurant in the Geelong region, without a doubt!
If I was to have one complaint, it would be that they need to have better hours of operation, we quite often visit Ocean Grove on a Sunday & Monday , and they are closed both days. Which I think is a bit poor for a customer service venue. Although, if having two days off means they keep the top quality food and service going, I will stay happy!
Really Funky

I love this place. It's owned by a younger couple about my age and they do a fantastic job of everything. They are both really hospitable . Ben makes great coffee and i like soy, it always comes out really top notch here. Kim, his partner, is one of the waitress', she always has a lovely smile no matter what day of the week or time of the day it is.
I had lunch here with my hubby and it was to die for. We had been avoiding it due to the price of the evening meals but lunch was really reasonable. As the last review points out they do have locals night! I have been there and had the most beautiful piece of porterhouse steak with a really nice shiraz.
The style of the place is lovely with polished floor boards, nice lighting, an open fire and a really lovely big long table to give a great communal atmosphere!

Fine Dining in Ocean Grove

7th Wave is one of the funky cafe/restaurant/bars that has migrated with the yuppies from Acland Street to Ocean Grove. Wood paneled walls, a flat screen tv, black leather couches set around an open fire: this place is small enough that you'll know the names of the staff after your second visit, but large enough to have top-class chefs pumping out a variety of modern, mouth-watering dishes.
This is definitely one of the classier places in Grove, but unfortunately the prices are just a little bit higher as well, although if you're local you'll love Wednesday's "locals night" where you can pick up a two-course meal and a glass of wine for $20.
If you're looking for a good dinner with friends then this is definitely worth considering. One of the best places on the Bellarine Peninsula.
