I meet with two work colleagues (3) about four times a year (every 3 months), mid afternoon (at 3) at the 3 Station Pier Restaurant (at 3) for 1. a chat, 2. a drink, and 3. a feed (for 3)
3 Station Pier is a relatively new restaurants on the western side of the pier, a trendy place that grew with the development of Port Melbourne. Us ol’ timers always used to meet at Stalactites, the original, smaller and older pier restaurant. It is still there, with a different name, but we kind’ve tried the new place and have made it our meeting home now. It’s a trip to the city I look forward to.
3 Station Pier is bright and breezy, portion of it is right on the pier, and depending on the weather conditions clear plastic curtains are raised and you feel like you are in one of the many launches with the local beautiful people parading themselves metres away.
Last time we met there was a hot blustery westerly so the curtains were closed and the sun coming in through the plastic was quite hot… so we moved inside the main restaurant. I havn’t been to this restaurant in the evening, but I imagine it would have a really nice, almost nautical ambience, and the mezzanine level would have lovely views.
Waiting staff are friendly and efficient, drinks are cool and relaxing. The dinner menu looks great with a range of mod-Oz, featuring superb provincial game dishes and some vegetarian and seafood wonders. Average mains price is $30.
At the pier level in the afternoon only the pizza menu is available, but last time we talked nicely to the waitress and managed to get a lovely vegetarian antipasto from the dinner entrée menu. It was delicious…
